Kapa’a High SCC Minutes

August 18, 2015

Called to Order: 5:30pm


Members Present: Daniel Hamada, Nancy Borilez, Robyn Keawe, Waianela Boiser, Sheleah Masi, Pam Baligad, Bridget Pope, Janis Gowan, Maverick Yadao, and Kiana Furutani


Objective of Meeting: SY2015-2016/ACFIN Goal 1 Student Success

New Business:


1 – Chair welcomed new members to SCC

Bridget Pope, Parent Representative

Maverick Yadao Student Representative

–Due to community members moving over the summer, looking for new community members. Suggestion: Jaycee Youn from the Boys & Girls club.

-Chair let students know that their predecessors voted to have students share at   every meeting and reminded to set up Student Council suggestion box.

2 — Secretary needed: Parent Representative Bridget Pope voted in.

3 – Chair gave an overview of SCC vision and mission and bylaws.

-Passed out 2015/16 Academic Financial Plan AC/FIN

-We are not a Title One school this year.

-Discussed the importance of Title 1 status, as it affects ALL students. Title 1 status affects grants, reduction in App testing fees, and more.

-Discussed parents to fill out or mark Free/Reduced Meal Application:

Completed on-line, at lower level public school, or do not qualify in effort to document every students status.

-Suggested putting reduced lunch forms out at Open House.

4 – Engrade- Increase parent Engrade account

-Computer labs at Open House. Student Clubs assist with sign-ups.

-PCNC will help set up parent Engrade account anytime, email her.

5 – Mr. Hamada reviewed 2014/2015 ACFIN Goal 1 Student Success

-Early College has been passed and is now part of DOE, although DOE                                      not funding it. Kapa’a High is fortunate to have funding. This semester                                      we are offering Speech 151, Health 140, and Math 103.

-We also have 8 students doing Jumpstart at KCC.

-Financial Literacy in Transition to College course.

6 – Principal Updates:

  1. A) New school year start: 1051 students enrolled
  2. B) Average class sizes remain small
  3. C) Open House/PTSA Pizza dinner September 10, 2015 6:00pm
