Tutoring
All HOPES, IDEAS, and Hui Onipaa teachers must be in their classrooms from 2:30 – 3 pm every Thursday to help students who need the extra assistance.  Hui Ikaika teachers will do tutoring every Tuesday from 2:30 – 3 pm.  Please remind students of this tutoring opportunity as you feel necessary.

Conduct
Administration will continue to do tardy sweeps and monitor appropriate school wear daily.  Having students in class on time and dressed appropriate has definitely had a positive impact on the Kapaa HS community.  Teachers, please immediately notify administration of students who are not wearing proper school attire as they enter your classroom.  This will help ensure that all rules and expectation can be addressed equitably across campus.

GOAL 2:   STAFF SUCCESS:
Academy List/Master Schedule
Attached below is the academy list for all teachers and support staff.  The master schedule with tentative course sections will be sent out soon.  We have the majority of class times set for Early College.  As soon as we fill in times for the final 4 classes, the tentative master schedule will be sent to teachers.

(See attached file: Updates 3-25.xlsx)

Transition to New Academy Structure
On behalf of administration, I would like to thank every teacher for their hard work in preparing for next school year in trying to create truly authentic learning lessons and activities for our students.  This authenticity will create the relevance needed for all of our students to make the needed connections to be successful in both college and career.  I know the work is demanding and tedious at times, but we will all see the benefits of this structure if we continue to collaborate in building Kapaa HS into an even greater school that it already is.  These great things are definitely a reflection of the dedicated teachers and staff on our campus!

PD Days for 4th Qtr.
During the weeks of May 6 and May 13, all hui and academy teachers for next year will have a full day of academy/hui planning time.  Administration has the subcode and will distribute these to the CTE/Hui lead teachers this week as soon as all PD dates are set, you will then receive an email with the code and date of your PD day.  Please call in for your subs as soon as possible.

Teacher Externships/Industry Tours
August 30, 2019 will be collaboration day for the East Complex.  Administration, CTE department, and Mr. Keawe are currently working to have academy teachers visit at least one business partner on this day.  This opportunity will allow you to learn more about the industry and understand what tools/skills our students need to be successful in various careers.  This introductory opportunity will help in building a relevant curriculum so that all students can be successful.

GOAL 3: SYSTEM SUCCESS:
PLC Schedule
9th grade PLC’s will continue as scheduled for the rest of this year.  Changes to the academy PLC’s are as follows: Student support for the HOPES and IDEAS academies will both take place on Mondays.  Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be used for academy planning for next year.  Thursdays will be tutoring and Friday will be content time.  Please submit RFA’s as needed so students continue to get the needed supports.

EES
EES is scheduled for Wednesday 4/24.  Meetings will be held in the classroom of the CTE lead teacher.  Asking science teachers to sit with an academy they have not yet met with.  On the agenda will be items from the PD day held last week with Danielle Mezera.
