Any Senior planning to attend any of Hawaii Community Colleges, UH Hilo, West Oahu, UH Maui or UH Manoa, may come to the Counselor’s office to pick up a list of scholarships offered at the colleges.

The University of Hawaii System also has a Common Scholarship Application-Please see Counseling office for information on how to create an account.

2018 Project Grad Special $50 discount fee deadline is on Dec. 20 WEDNESDAY. After Dec. 20 the price goes up to $75! Turn in all paperwork and money to the Counseling Office during Lunch and Recess only. If you lost the “paperwork” you can go to the Kapaa High Website and look under Seniors Only so that you can print out new forms.

The following Scholarship applications and information are available at the Counseling office, and can be picked up during recess and lunch only.

· Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation Scholarship Application – Deadline: Feb. 7, 2018
2 Letters of Recommendation, Essay, Completed FAFSA

· Pacific University Scholarships Available if you apply to Pacific by December 1, 2017! If you are accepted you will be automatically considered for the 5 different scholarships! There are 13 other scholarships that need to be applied for separately. Please see Counselor’s office for list.

· AFSCME Family Scholarship – Parent, Legal Guardian, Grandparent must be a current AFSCME member. Must be enrolled as a full time degree program at an accredited 4 year program or at a 2 year institution that will transfer into a 4 year institution. Must have take the ACT or SAT.
Deadline: Post Mark, December 31, 2017 Scholarship is $2,000 and renewable up to 4 years as long as student maintains full time status in 4 year degree program. Please come to Counseling Office for more information.

· HMSA Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program – Must have a minimum or 2.75 GPA, Have played on at least one school athletic team during high school, participated in community service. 1 $5,000 MeAward per high school. Deadline: Feb. 8, 2018 Website: hmsa.com/kaimana or sportshigh.com

· David S. Ishii Foundation Scholarship – Must be an active member of your high school’s Golf Team, 2.O GPA, plan to attend a 4 year accredited institution, letter of recommendation and essay. (2)$2,500 for 1 female and 1 male. Deadline: Post Mark – April 13, 2018

· Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship – Must be pursuing degree in the culinary field, have letters of recommendation, Financial Need, complete 3 essay questions. Deadline: April 15, 2018

· Gustav Hannemann and Faiaso Soliai Hannemann Leadership Awards – Recognizing seniors of Samoan Ancestry who demonstrate leadership qualities, must have 2.5 or higher GPA in college prep classes, be involved in Student Govt, or leadership positions in on campus activities or community services.
$500 Awards to 1 female and 1 male. Deadline: March 31, 2018

· Public Scholarships – Application period opens Jan. 3, 2017. Please pick up Important Information, Program Requirements and Required Documents list. Deadline: Feb 15, 2017

· Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation – Regular Scholarship – Deadline: Dec. 1, 2017 This scholarship is open to students currently participating in water sports or volleyball and who plan to attend in sports in college. Must 3.0 GPA and must be involved in community service.

JUNIORS & SENIORS:
On Tuesday, November 28 during period 3 from 11:45 am – 12:30 pm, a representative from the University of Hawaii Medical School will be here to present information on a summer program they are offering. This is a good opportunity to take advantage of if interested in the medical field, so sign up in the Counseling Office during Lunch and Recess.

ATTENTION BUS RIDERS ON QUARTER PLANS–PLEASE PAY YOUR BUS PASSES BEFORE DECEMBER 21; YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE BUS IF YOU DON’T HAVE A VALID PASS. SUBMIT YOUR PAYMENT TO THE OFFICE TO CONTINUE BUS RIDE.

Winter Ball payments have been extended until next week Friday, Dec. 8th. Mrs. Watanabe will be out on Friday, Dec. 1st and off campus on Wednesday, Dec. 6th, so you will have today, next week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to turn in contracts and make payments. That should give everyone enough time to get contracts signed and payment in full, CASH ONLY.

Interested in experimenting and researching a future career to win fabulous prizes? Create a Science Fair Project and be ready to present it on January 25th. Students participating may be eligible to to go Honolulu for the State Competition. Email Mr. Koenig or stop by S102 during Lunch any day before Thanksgiving to sign up and learn more!
