Graduation 2017

UPDATES -WEEK OF NOVEMBER 14th

Goal 1: STUDENT SUCCESS
Academy Interdisciplinary Capstone: Per our mid-term WASC visit, we are reminded us about those key areas that we need to focus on……. interdisciplinary projects, capstone and improving our state assessment scores for Math and Science. Asking our CTE lead teachers to work with their academies to solidify pathway interdisciplinary capstone programs to ensure relevancy for all students. Administration will continue to align Early College courses and community partnerships with our efforts. Administration will be having an initial meeting with State Personnel Office and Budget Office on Monday, Nov. 20th to begin planning for personnel and budgetary requests. Alex Harris, Strategic Planner for the Harold K. L. Castle Foundation will be on campus Tuesday, Nov. 14th to discuss Kapaa High’s next steps addressing work based learning such as internships, career fairs, job shadowing, etc.

GOAL 2: STAFF SUCCESS:
Tripod Surveys: Tripod on-line surveys are to be administered this week from Tuesday, Nov. 14th thru Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017. Attached pdf provides more administration information as teachers will be having their students in either periods 1 or 2 do the Tripod surveys. Registrar Barcial has already communicated with those teachers whose periods didn’t workout in terms of class sizes.

Biology classes will be joining with the Agriculture/Horticulture classes to create a school garden along with soil sample testing, and planting with different types of soil. Grove Farm is awarding $1,000 and another donor will be matching the award for a total of $2,000.

More information will be shared as we collectively strategize the professional development planning and funding over the coming years

Business-Education Partnerships: To further strengthen our Hui/Academy vision, discussions are taking place toward supporting all three Kauai high schools’ vision. Marion Paul, Administrator for Kauai Planning and Action Alliance is helping to facilitate the high school- post secondary committee. Over the coming months, planning to have interested Hui/Academy leaders and interested staff, attend these partnership sessions to learn first hand the important work taking place toward supporting our schools.
